Sarah's Bakery - Delicious, Individually Designed Cakes for every occasion

About Us

Sarah's Bakery came to life in my family kitchen, over a glass of wine with my good friend Bev. I was tired of corporate life and had always found baking a comforting, homely pastime. I had made my daughter, Alice, a fantastically over the top chocolate birthday cake using a recipe from Bev's Forrest Gump cookbook. My mother, grandmother and I had stayed up until midnight the night before the party converting ingredients from cups to grams, and combining them in several batches as there was so much of them! We had a lovely evening, arguing over our maths and sharing many smiles about the mess I was making. The result was a stunning 12" cake covered in chocolate ganache that was the talking point of the party (amongst both parents and discerning 6 year olds!).

Another friend of mine, Lynne, said that having seen and tasted Alice's cake, her son had asked if I could make his birthday cake. I did, and he was so excited that I had made such an effort for him and that his cake was unique and not the same as everyone else's from the supermarket. It gave me such pleasure to make someone else happy by doing something that I really enjoyed. So back to the glass of wine..Bev said to me 'Why keep on looking for something to do for a living? Why don't you make cakes?' The question hung in the air for quite time..a few months in fact, as I mulled over the idea.

The rest, as they say, is history.
